Crosscube Challenges

Configure and integrate into BIM

“Our team and our network partners collaborated in order to further improve upon our current access chamber. We were able to conclude that the functionality, logistics, efficiency and use of our existing Crosscube was actually already fine”, explains Gerben Borger, director at Crosscube’s parent company, PION Kunststoffen. “We did, however, find that our Crosscube product range could be made to be even more accessible to benefit use across the entire chain (client, consultant and end users). We frequently noted that it was not always clear as to which access chamber variation was best for a given project. By asking questions, we were able to reach the desired outcome along with the customer. “

Translation to the designer

How can we bring in our expertise to benefit the entire chain of users, so that sustainable and future-ready choices can easily be made for a project? The solution: involve the customer in the implementation choices! Make a choice / step-by-step plan that fits the needs of the customer or the project. That fit the project phase. And, ideally, one that can be made into a file that can be easily uploaded into a drawing.

This was unknown territory for us and involved an intensive process. At PION, we love to discover and to come up with new solutions, to ensure that we stay one step ahead of the future, as they say. On several occasions, we ran into road bumps along the way and had to pay the price for this. We call that “improving by doing” at PION. We always do this together. We have developed the Crosscube configurator in this way, along with the right partners.

For each step, you can choose from the options ranging from trench size to duct connections, cover load and cover design. Ultimately, you generate the end result and see it visualised in a simplified representation.

You will then have the option to request a quote and receive the composite access chamber in an IFC file in your mailbox. This is a file that you can easily integrate into your BIM environment / plan.

We are proud of this result. Naturally, we will continue to take steps towards improving. We will continue to invest and develop based on market needs. Within the infrastructure market, digitalisation will also continue and BIM will play an even greater role. As Gerben adds, “we are, of course, following these developments with much interest.”

How does it work?

The Crosscube is fully modular and has many options, offering you a great opportunity to make the right access chamber according to your wishes. Doing so online offers you the possibility of generating just the right access chamber for your project using 3D modelling. Upload this directly into your own project drawing or plan and you’re done! Nice idea, right?

How does it work?
1. Go to the configurator
2. Follow the four steps
3. Generate the access chamber
4. Request a quote or an IFC file for your BIM integration

The Crosscube configurator provides clear and efficient support in compiling, purchasing and applying your access chamber system.
